Renukanand GU engaging the audience at Cloud2012

Background:

Cloud2012 is Malaysia’s first Industry focused end to end Cloud computing conference and roundtable event and is a followup event to the initial 1CareCloud Roundtable in October 2011. The Conference seeks to bring together industry leaders from the computing, security, media and health fields such as IBM Global Technology Services & Software Group, Webse, Juniper Networks; Sophos, Penamatics and Write Forms, Inc, and Embedded Wireless Labs to exploit opportunities in the market to deliver healthcare solutions using cloud technology.

Highlights:

Embedded Wireless Lab’s connected health solutions forms the core of the ecosystem to connect health monitoring devices to a central intelligence and to share data over the cloud with primary caregivers to readily access patient data. Building a comprehensive ecosystem for connected healthcare was the main thrust of the conference which saw participation by the various involved industries as well as by healthcare practitioners.

The conference keynotes and roundtable addressed some key issues.

• One of the key proposals was to provision such monitoring devices in public hospitals in order to reduce manpower costs for hospitals as well as reduce wait times for patients in view of how public hospitals are often overwhelmed with patients
• Remove complex infrastructure to free caregivers so they are to focus on patient care.
• The dialogue sessions also explored opportunities to encourage greater private sector initiatives to drive connected healthcare adoption by both practitioners and patients.     .

Many of the attending companies also had booth to represent their products. which Embedded WIreless Labs made good on the opportunity to provide demos to visitors to check their blood pressure or weight.

“Health Care Cloud Services and Solutions” - Renukanand G.U., Senior Vice President, Embedded Wireless Labs, described the value inherent in intelligent wireless health ecosystem where monitoring devices will help people manage their health. “When you integrate intelligence at the core with near field Bluetooth technology to pair with peripheral device sensors to collect data and share it over the cloud to remote caregivers, then you have a powerful ecosystem that will potentially change the face of healthcare. Renukanand told the audience in the room.

EWL’s SVP also took the opportunity to showcase a live demo of the Zilant Hleath Server and invited the audience up onstage to gauge the system for themselves. Participants in the demo had their blood pressure checked and were able to see the date wirelessly transmitted onto the big screen in an instant!

“TPM Enterprise Cloud Portal” -Calvert Wong, Chief Executive Offier, Webse, highlighted Webse’s industry experience in web maintenance and servers farming to more advanced e-commerce, e-insurance and e-banking applications.”We need to foresee opportunities and problems from time to time and provide the most efficient solutions beyond our customers’ expectations,” said Wong.

“Solutions to help enable smarter security, business growth and innovation” – Dennis Low, Security Services Leader, IBM Global Technology Services, Asean , introduced IBM’s  managed security services to protect sensitive corporate data with a risk-balanced strategy and leading data protection technologies as well a way reduce the cost and complexity of securing the infrastructure.

“Evolution in Data Center Architecture and Cloud Security” - Khairil Anwar Khamarudin, Technical Consultant, Juniper Networks, discussed how data centre elements like servers, appliances, storage, and other networking devices—can be contained in a cloud-like architecture to vastly improve the performance, scale, agility, and security of applications in any data center. ”Businesses benefit from infrastructures that are centrally managed and shared  through consolidation and virtualization as these  reduce IT costs while improving the user experience”, he said.

“Secure the Cloud” - Easan Sathiyalingam, Sales Engineer, Sophos Malaysia. Fresh from their recent ready for release global announcement of Sophos Virtual Web Applicances, Easan made the case that virtualization will help organizations reduce capital and operating costs, and drive greater levels of application availability and will also yield benefits in flexibility, agility and control.

Mark Powley and his partner Wayne Greer made their initial visit to the Lab at the end of October last year but a second visit was very much on the cards to fine-tune client requirements, deployment scenario and business arrangements. .

V-Sat Communications have also been working closely with a regional telco to trial our enterprise level 3G Gryphon Router since June this year for deployment into their networks. After initial trials on uplink and downlink data speeds and VoIP tests, the Gryphon 3G Wireless Router is currently undergoing network testing.

Embedded Wireless Labs and V-Sat Communications are also working on M2M applications for the Zilant Automation..

Happy New Year 2012!

The  lecturer and students from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM)’s Computer Engineering class were taken on a tour of EWL’s Advanced Technology Design Centre  They were given a briefing session on the Lab’s activities by Senior Vice Preseident GU Renukanand followed by sessions led by our various software, hardware, embedded and radio frequency engineers.

One for the Book Club- Jim Collins' Great by Choice

Christmas came early at EWL as Senior Vice President GU Renukanand presented everyone at EWL with a hard cover copy of Jim Collins’ book, Great by Choice.

Collins is the famous bestselling author of Good To Great, which has sold over four million copies to date and has been described by Fortune as perhaps the most influential management thinker alive.

Renukanand recommended Collins’ recent book for its remarkable analysis of factors that propel us to achieve success or experience failure, citing in particular the chapter on the polar explorers Amundsen and Scott
