Mid April. We found ourselves in the sprawling metro that is Hong Kong.
But there was no time for taking in the sights as we headed straight to the China Sourcing Fair 2011 electronics show in Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo amidst 3,260 booths of electronics, components and security products. Apparently it was a record! The Electronics & Components and Security Products show which ran from April 12-15thJune showcased over 2,700 booths from mainland China, the largest group of suppliers followed by Hong Kong and Taiwan with over 460 booths as well as booths from Australia, South Korea. India, Italy, Japan, Germany and Malaysia, among others.
It was really HUGE! We found out the hard way walking around pavilion after pavilion showcasing a whole range of access controls & RFID; alarms; CCTV and digital surveillance, solar & energy-saving devices and home security products. At the end of the day (ok a couple of days) it was worth the effort as we accomplished our goal of researching and sourcing sensor devices and other components for our home automation and security product. It was a good experience meeting with vendors and getting sense of the market out there! Meeting and talking to vendors like ZigBee based product vendors gave us better insight into the market especially in the Personal Area Network space.
We also managed to catch the HongKong Trade Development Council Fair which was going on in full swing at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Expo Drive. We were glad not to have missed this as it featured the latest telecommunications, multimedia, Internet, and digitainment products. It was tech galore.
Great products and a lot of food for thought! It’s already time now to head out and chow down on some special Hong Kong fare!
