Kuala Lumpur, October, 24, 2011 : Embedded Wireless Labs’ Senior Vice President GU Renukanand was a key presenter on wireless healthcare solutions at the inaugural 1CareCloud Industry Roundtable. The Roundtable convened policy makers from the Ministry of Health and industry leaders in cloud computing, embedded technology and network security to share technical expertise, address common concerns and create an enabling policy to enhance the delivery of 1Care, the Malaysian national healthcare.
Senior Vice-President GU Renukanand was EWL’s key speaker at the Roundtable, which was initiated and hosted by Groupe Amsys at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Kuala Lumpuron October, 24, 2011. The other key presenters included the Ministry of Health, IBM and Avnet, and WatchGuard Technologies.
The 1Carecloud Roundtable of policymakers and industry experts’ key objective was to discuss strategic opportunities to create a best practice integrated platform to deliver healthcare solutions and software services using Cloud computing and on demand infrastructure from IBM & Avnet, featuring network security from Watch Guard. Embedded Wireless Labs fills a big jigsaw piece at the core of the system with its Zilant Health Server to connect health monitoring devices to a central intelligence for primary caregivers to readily access patient data.
A comprehensive ecosystem for healthcare was the predominant theme at the roundtable with the key proposal being to deliver self-monitoring devices in public hospitals in order to reduce wait times for end-users and produce a roll-on effect to free manpower utilization in hospitals.
Attendees identified a number of challenges and opportunities arising from the discussions including:
- An aging population and increased need for healthcare.
- Greater challenges especially infrastructure-wise to deliver the services especially in rural areas.
- The dialogue also identified opportunities for the public sector to achieve new levels of governance and performance to 1Care.
Speakers ( in order) :
Dr. Fazilah Allandin, Ministry of Health, opened the discussion. Rolling out a rural tele-health service was one of the public sector’s primary goals, she noted, in her presentation on current implementation and future projections.
“1CareCloud Framework” – Ku Chuan Cherng, Cloud Computing Country Leader, IBM Malaysia, introduced IBM’s next-generation, multi-tenant platform based on infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) delivery designed to help businesses use shared cloud services to drive efficiencies, manage costs and speed-to-market.
“Secure the Cloud” – Keane Law, Regional Sales Manager – Southeast Asia, Watch Guard Technologies Inc discussed next-generation firewall (NGFW) capabilities to ensure enterprise-class security for large enterprises and data centres by delivering high-performance firewall, application control and intrusion prevention system (IPS) to protect against data theft, malware and security breaches.
“Intelligent Wireless Connectivity for Healthcare Solutions” – GU Renukanand, Senior Vice President, Embedded Wireless Labs delivered a macro industry perspective and spoke on the unique challenges of an aging population on the healthcare delivery system. He presented the business case for the Zilant Health Server – “wireless intelligent connectivity for remote patient monitoring system to connect various monitoring devices and share data via a web interface to primary caregivers”- as a means to support clinical practice and enhance delivery of health services. Renukanand then proceeded to do a live demonstration of Zilant’s patient monitoring capabilities. Volunteers from the audience had their readings taken by a blood pressure monitor or a weigh scale and saw their data immediately displayed live on the screen. It definitely had everyone’s attention!
